Texas Academy Political Action Committee

SB 2016
SB 2016 was brought forward by TDLR as part of its Strategic Plan for 2023-27. The bill that passed the Legislature does essentially four things:
* Removes obsolete statutory provisions that are no longer needed due to other law or rule changes
* Conforms, in minor ways, the Dietitian statute to the TDLR regulatory model
* Better aligns our statute with national (CDR) credentialing standards–specifically in anticipation of the new CDR prerequisite of a master’s degree that goes into January 1, 2024.
* Contains thoughtful grandfathering provisions that will provide needed clarity to help ensure the transition creates minimal barriers or work disruptions for current or aspiring licensees.
PAC Funds in Action
At the end of June 2023, $1500 of Texas Academy PAC funds was granted to attend a fundraiser for Senator Judith Zaffirini. A TAND Representative was able to continue discussions about SB2016 and build on an advocacy relationship established in the recent Legislative Session. Senator Zaffirini is the lead sponsor of SB2016; she championed for its passage during the Legislative Session and is now fighting for its reconsideration in the special session. Utilizing PAC funds to build and maintain critical relationships and collaboration with pro-nutrition legislators aligned with the Texas Academy’s goals is essential to the passage of SB2016 and future bills; unfortunately, we are now at an all-time low balance and entering a critical need for replenishment of these funds.
Please donate here so we can continue the necessary advocacy work to support SB2016, our profession, and beyond!
Note: donations made to TANDPAC are voluntary and are not tax deductible.

What is TANDPAC?
Texas Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics Political Action Committee (TANDPAC) or Texas Academy PAC TANDPAC or Texas Academy PAC is a nonpartisan political action committee for the Texas Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. The Texas Academy PAC is led by Registered Dietitian Nutrition professionals and member donors from across the state of Texas. Member contributions are distributed to election campaigns of Texas political candidates who are pro-nutrition, food, and health and are aligned with the views and goals of the Texas Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.
Why donate to TANDPAC?
TANDPAC donations are vital to the success of passing nutrition related policies affecting our patients and our profession in Texas. The valuable donations received make it possible for the Texas Academy to articulate its nutrition legislative objectives in Austin and engage in a dialogue with the elected officials who lead our state. Your support of Texas Academy PAC helps to connect us with Texas legislators, providing us with the opportunity to advocate for our patients and nutrition related policies, such as SB2016 Preserving the Integrity of the Dietitian’s License bill.
