Title: Open the Possibilities: Lifting the Lid on the Role of Canned Beans in the Prevention and Management of Diabetes
The goodness of beans extends beyond their ability to help manage blood glucose. They may promote digestive health, heart health and weight management, to name just a few. A national survey shows that Registered Dietitian Nutritionists know most of these benefits, but most consumers don’t. This webinar will examine the nutrition benefits and evidence-based research around beans regarding glycemic and lipid control that optimize the prevention and management of diabetes. Chef and Culinary Nutritionist, Jackie Newgent, RDN, CDN, will share the importance of beans and their place in a diet, and years of evidence-based research on their nutrition benefits. Applying her mantra of “Go for great taste. Aim for plant-based. Try not to waste,” she will share delicious, simple-to-fix, and new strategies on how to incorporate beans into everyday meals and snacks for people with diabetes.
After attending this webinar, the attendee will be able to:
• Cite at least three evidence-based nutrition and health benefits of canned beans for people affected by diabetes
• Discuss how including canned beans as part of a healthy diet may help optimize the prevention and management of diabetes
• List at least three consumer-friendly strategies to incorporate canned beans into meals and snacks
