Position Offered: Extension Program Specialist I
Job Description: The Extension Program Specialist, under general supervision, develops programs, services, and/pr processes.
Responsibilities: Develops programs, services, products, and/or processes. Manages projects and priorities. Develops effective learning environments for adult and/or youth audiences. Identifies, trains, and supports volunteers to enhance effective adult and/or youth education programs. Provides expertise for disciplinary, multi-disciplinary, and/or interdisciplinary programming and projects of the agency. Applies an understanding of principles and technologies in support of programs or services. Evaluates programs and activities in relation to outcome plans and program objectives/requirements. Delivers or facilitates delivery of educational activities. Contributes to grant proposals and execution of grants. Develops personal and organizational relationships with industry and other external groups to advance organizational goals.
The successful candidate will work with Specialists, Regional Program Leaders and County Extension Agents for Family and Community Health to support the implementation of evidence-based programs in the area of diet-related chronic diseases. The Extension Program Specialist will assist in the training of Agents, provide subject matter expertise and technical assistance to Agents, Regional Program Leaders, and Volunteers in the area of diet-related chronic disease management within the Central region and neighboring counties as requested. Additionally, the Extension Program Specialist will work with Agents to identify partners at the county level to help expand the delivery of programs targeted towards diet-related chronic diseases. The Extension Program Specialist will work with other Specialists and County Agents to develop, implement, and evaluate programs aimed at the prevention of diet-related chronic diseases. As appropriate, the Extension Program Specialist will work to secure external funding through fee-based programs, and external contracts and grants.

- Provides program leadership, organizational support and manages projects. Develops, delivers, teaches, implements, and evaluates programs, services, products and/or processes.
- Provides expertise for disciplinary, multi-disciplinary, and/or interdisciplinary programming and projects of the agency. Coordinates agency activities within appropriate units and individuals in order to increase efficiency and effectiveness.
- Determines the type of educational products and reports needed to meet the needs of external and internal clientele.
- Produces educational programs and services utilizing available technology in program development and delivery. Utilizes feedback and evaluations to improve teaching effectiveness.
- Develops effective learning environments for adult and/or youth audiences. Identifies trains and supports volunteers to enhance effective adult and/or youth education programs.
Additional responsibilities: Work with County Extension Agents – Family and Community Health to implement educational programs aimed at diet-related chronic disease (i.e. heart disease, obesity, hypertension, diabetes). Work with Agents, Specialists, and Regional Program Leaders to build external partnerships at the county level to expand Extension program delivery in the area of diet-related chronic disease prevention and management.Work with Specialists and Agents to respond to trends and programmatic needs (focused on diet-related chronic disease prevention and management). Assist, as needed, in the delivery of Extension programs related to diet-related chronic disease. Work with Specialists in the Foods and Nutrition Unit to develop educational programs and support materials. Serve as a point of contact for media requests (newspaper, radio, television). Train Agents on the implementation of Extension programs in the area of diet-related chronic disease management and prevention. Seek external funding to support programming efforts through contracts, grants, or the development of fee-based programs.
Education Required: Bachelor’s degree in Nutrition or other applicable field. Preferred: Master’s degree
Experience Required: Five or more years of related professional experience. Preferred: Experience in developing educational programs and support materials aimed at diet-related chronic disease. Demonstrated experience in presenting educational programs to diverse audiences using a variety of appropriate methods, techniques, activities, and materials. Demonstrated ability to build partnerships with agencies and organizations.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of word processing, database, presentation, and spreadsheet applications. Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others. Excellent written and verbal communication, analytical, interpersonal, and organizational.
Qualifications Preferred: Registered Dietitian Nutritionist
Languages: Preferred: Bilingual (Spanish)
