The seminar is intended to address the crucial new knowledge of understanding infant communication from birth through the first few critical days of life. In this virtual conference, Ms. Watson Genna will address two aspects of this broad area, the commonly misunderstood area of how an infant communicates his or her needs and assessment of suck and swallow patterns. The goal is to gain knowledge and understanding regarding the numbers one and two reasons women give for breastfeeding cessation, infant’s “refusal” to breastfeed and “baby is not getting enough”. The proposed speaker, Catherine Watson Genna, is a widely recognized worldwide expert in supporting sucking skills in breastfeeding infants. Her book, “Supporting Sucking Skills in Breastfeeding Infants” (Jones and Bartlett, 2017) is now in its 3rd edition.
